Job shadowing is a work experience option where students learn about a job by walking through the work day as a shadow to a competent worker. The job shadowing work experience is a temporary, unpaid exposure to the workplace in an occupational area of interest to the student. Students witness firsthand the work environment, employability and occupational skills in practice, the value of professional training and potential career options. Job shadowing is designed to increase career awareness, help model student behavior through examples and reinforce in the student the link between classroom learning and work requirements.

Job shadowing is required of all drafting students each semester. You must participate in a job experience outside of school. This only needs to be 2-3 hours. The goal is to observe someone in manufacturing, design, engineering, construction or architecture. The goal is NOT to put on hard hats and do work. The goal is to observe an industry professional in their work environment.
The preferred method to line up a job shadowing experience is to speak with your family friends and neighbors first. If there is noone in your network who can accommodate this assignment, depending on your level Mrs. Price has other options.
Here are the job shadowing forms.
This is a 100 point assignment.
Once complete, please write a 1 page paper about your experience.
The paper to include:
- who did you interview
- when/how did interview happen
- give details about the person
- what did you learn - write out questions & answers
- what do you think about this career?
